“I truly believe that God wants us to open a great door to this immense country.”  Father Gaihac Jan 2, 1887

The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in the Western American Area are celebrating the 100th Anniversary of RSHM life and mission in California and Mexico, from September 2022 – September 2023.

In 1923, responding to the invitation of Bishop John J. Cantwell, we arrived in Los Angeles with the mission of “Making God known and loved, so that all might have life”.

During this celebratory year we remember all that has happened in these grace-filled decades. In the words of Pope Francis, we will be “Looking at the past with gratitude, living the present with passion, and embracing the future with hope.” (Apostolic Letter, Nov. 21, 2014)

Though life has changed and evolved in so many ways for us over the last 100 years, one constant is that we have touched and been touched by the lives of many.

We are looking forward to this 100th Anniversary Year. It is a time to remember and give thanks for the many ways God has been at work in us, to say with confidence and joy, “for all that has been, thanks…for all that will be, YES”.

We invite you to watch the opening liturgy to celebrate our 100th Anniversary and Honor our 2022 Jubilarians.

Mary Leah Plante, RSHM – 60 years
Clare Melody, RSHM – 70 years
Eileen Tuohy, RSHM – 70 years
