As a new school year begins, we look back at a special moment in our history—the opening of the first Marymount School in the West. 📚

On September 24, the school welcomed its first five students: Katherine, Marian, and Marjorie Keller, Barbara Mott, and Josephine Maury. The following day, Dorothy Duque joined them as a first-grader. By January, enrollment had grown to twelve students.

Among them was Alice Quarles, whose mother had been educated by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Lisburn, Ireland—a wonderful connection to an educational tradition that was already reaching across generations and continents.

From those first students began a Marymount educational legacy in the West that would continue to grow for generations.

As students and educators begin a new school year, we celebrate this history and the enduring RSHM commitment to education.
