On May 8, 2025, the College of Cardinals elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th Pope of the Catholic Church. Taking the name Pope Leo XIV, he becomes the first pope born in the United States and the first from the Order of Saint Augustine, chosen after a conclave in the Sistine Chapel. White smoke rising from the chapel chimney signaled to the world that a new shepherd had been called to lead the Church with a message of peace, unity, and hope.
May his ministry be guided by wisdom and compassion as he leads Catholics around the world.
