As we approach the November elections, we remember the inspiring work and lasting legacy of Sister Virginia Joseph, RSHM, and her lifelong commitment to helping others find their voice.
Today, we are sharing a special video in remembrance of Sr. Virginia and the many lives she touched through her dedication to helping immigrants become U.S. citizens.
A Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for over 70 years, Sr. Virginia began teaching English to immigrants during the 1987 immigration amnesty program. What started as a volunteer ministry became a lifelong commitment to helping countless individuals prepare for U.S. citizenship.
Through her dedication, Sr. Virginia opened doors for so many to become citizens, giving them not only new opportunities but also the power to participate in our democracy and make their voices heard through voting. Her legacy reminds us that helping others find their voice is itself an act of justice.
As RSHM, our charism calls us to promote peace through justice. In that spirit, we encourage all Catholics and people of goodwill to approach this election with prayerful discernment, reflecting on the candidates, issues, and policies that shape our communities and our future.
Every voice matters. Every vote is an opportunity to help build a more just and compassionate world.
We invite you to watch Sr. Virginia’s story and remember a remarkable woman whose ministry continues to inspire us to empower others and work toward a more just society.
