The 2nd Vatican Council challenged the people of God and Consecrated Religious to reflect on and respond to the needs of the times.

The RSHM entered fully into the process of renewing our life and mission. It was also the beginning of a response to a call for the RSHM in the West to transcend different and varied boundaries. The sisters working in Marymount School in Cuernavaca met Fr. William Wasson, founder of Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos, an orphanage in Acolman, Mexico. This encounter eventually led to the RSHM staffing and caring for children from infancy to their young adult years. The RSHM also worked with Fr. Wasson’s orphanage in Honduras. Over the years the sisters in Mexico undertook a variety of ministries in varied locations. In 1995 the Western American Province invited the Brazilian and Eastern American Provinces to join them in beginning a new community in rural Mexico, Amacuzac. Two sisters from the West and one from the East and Brazil came together to prepare for this venture. Inserted in the people’s realities, they listened to their needs and worked with the local church and agencies to put their gifts and skills at the service of the people in eleven different pueblos.
