Mission Statement (2025)

We affirm our Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary Mission Statement which has been revised as follows:

We, the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, an international apostolic Institute of women religious, are called to share in the life-giving mission of Jesus Christ. The challenge of the Gospel and the spirit of faith and zeal which marked our founders, Jean Gailhac and Mère St. Jean, and our founding Sisters, urge us to respond to the needs of our time and to work with others in action for evangelical justice. Sent to promote the life and dignity of all our sisters and brothers, we place ourselves and our resources at the service of those who are most in need of justice, enabling the powerless, the deprived, the marginalized, the voiceless to work effectively for their own development and liberation. We affirm our commitment to care for our Common Home and to strengthen collaboration, networking and advocacy, as we cooperate with God in the transformation of the world.

We are called to be community, to know and celebrate God’s love for us and to make that love known to others. As we become more deeply inserted in the realities of the Church and world, we use our individual and corporate talents to work creatively in diverse ministries for the promotion of justice.

Mary is our model as we seek to be open to the Spirit, to center our lives in Jesus Christ, to be women of prayer and compassion, and to give authentic and joyful witness to the values of the gospel wherever we are.

Vision Statement (Chapter 2025)

As consecrated women, inspired by our Constitutions and in communion with the Church, we renew our commitment to the synodal journey by deep contemplative listening to the Spirit and opening our eyes and hearts to the concrete situations of those who suffer.

Our heritage and spirituality are treasures we share with all who identify with our charism and mission. We walk together, strengthening bonds of belonging and participation, cooperating with God for the transformation of the world.

As prophetic women affected by the reality of a world wounded by war, violence and offences against human dignity, we feel the call to “walk humbly with God, to act justly and to love tenderly” (Mic 6:8).  The legacy of our founders and our commitment to justice and to the poor encourage us to reaffirm our work in networks, partnering with others, in advocacy to change unjust structures. We strive to be artisans of care for each other, for those on the margins, and for our common home.

As one Body for Mission, we look to the future with hope. We commit ourselves to the holistic formation of all our Sisters and Collaborators, with special attention to the formation of new members for leadership and the needs of mission.

We continue the journey towards one unit of governance, respecting the reality and the needs of each Area.  We strengthen our unity by promoting interdependence, interculturality, collaboration and sharing of human and financial resources.

Like Mary, woman of faith, we risk the new with audacity, embracing our vulnerability, and encouraging our dreams.  Impelled by the love of Jesus Christ, we strive to create communion, so that all may have life.
